Plug-in vehicle market share:
Canada, 20th in the world, thanks to Quebec who could compete in the top 5

Nearly 1.2 million plug-in vehicles were sold worldwide in 2017. This corresponds to 1.50% of the global car market (79.6 million). In Quebec, the current share follows the global trend for the year: 1.50% of vehicles sold in Quebec in 2017 were plug-in models. For the same period, plug-in vehicles accounted for only 0.88% of total Canadian sales and 1.19% of sales in the United States.

The table below, published by ev-volumes, projected the top 20 countries in the world in terms of market share for sales of plug-in vehicles in 2017. Though far from front runners Norway or Hong Kong – which are exceptional cases – growth of plug-in vehicle sales in 2018 could bring Quebec towards 3% of sales, thus placing the province at the level of the 5 best countries in the world in terms of market share for plug-in vehicles!

With the Zero-emission vehicles Act in Quebec now in force, more plug-in vehicles will be offered to consumers. Also, continuing education and awareness efforts such as the Branchez-Vous brochure – as well as Branchez-vous, AVEQ and Équiterre events – allow more and more motorists to explore the market and consider going electric for their next purchase. How many additional plug-in vehicles will be added to the Quebec fleet in 2018? The Branchez-Vous team is rooting for at least 15,000! And you?
